http://www.speedracerthebeginning.com/
Speed Racer The Beginning has launched for iOS!
It features the Olivia Neutron Bomb remake of the Speed Racer Theme by Nobuyoshi Koshibe and it has ten original tracks from Black Hole Shadow.
I’m super thrilled with the game, it’s really fun and kind of addictive. Thanks to SGI for making this a great game and a fun project!
I’m getting the license set up to release the cover of the Speed Racer Theme and it should be up on iTunes for download shortly.

Track 11 was cowritten with Andy Alvey on guitars.
All the song titles are a reference to the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe podcast. I have been a fan for many years and thought it would be a fun way to pay homage to them. If you have any interest in science and critical thinking I highly recommend you check them out.

Game Music
I have many irons in the fire. Often times I would say this because I was simultaneously doing my own record and playing in somebody else’s band. I learned how wrong I was, that was a few irons in the same fire, those days are long gone and I was merely distracted then.
I just wrapped game music for an upcoming iOS and Android market release for the time tested, mother approved brand Speed Racer. Yup, that Speed Racer, he’s a demon on wheels.
The music is more electro-rock and spine jolting than most projects I have done in the last few years, so it was a welcome departure. Not only because it was musically different and nice to stretch my wings a bit, but also because, let’s be frank here, people are actually going to hear it!
It’s satisfying to have total artistic freedom, but with that often comes obscurity. Even those who have a platform and have artistic autonomy have already paid their dues and did the dance the money people wanted.
I got kind of lucky in that respect with Speed Racer.
I was shown concept art, given some idea on how the game plays and came back with some ideas that were not only not rejected, they were loved and embraced. I set my own limitations on how the music would jive with the game vibe and I nailed it. The licensor even liked my take on the Speed Racer theme song so much they decided to use my version on the title menu over the classic tune.
I’m pretty jazzed about the work I did, a big labor of love crammed into a small window. If there is any response to the music there will be a companion release under Olivia Neutron Bomb called “Black Hole Shadow.” Every song gets a title based off of the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe podcast, so it’s geek culture/nerd humor/science references.
I’ll put up a track listing and link soon.
